O CrossFit é um novo método de treinamento composto por exercícios funcionais, de alta intensidade e com foco em desenvolver o condicionamento físico de uma forma geral, sem focar apenas na especialização de uma determinada habilidade, como acontece nos treinos tradicionais.

Desde o início, a preparação completa do corpo era uma preocupação de Glassman. Assim, a estratégia do CrossFit é focar no desenvolvimento das habilidades físicas gerais, a partir de um treino dinâmico e funcional

Conforme as pessoas foram descobrindo as vantagens do CrossFit em relação a esses métodos convencionais, ele tem se tornado muito mais uma filosofia de vida do que apenas mais uma atividade física em si.

Quando falamos em condicionamento físico de uma forma geral dizemos no sentido de aperfeiçoar as funções humanas básicas, dentre os 10 domínios de capacidade física conhecidos, sendo que estas podem ser melhoradas através de adaptações neurológicas e/ou orgânicas. São elas:

Resistência cardio-respiratória / Resistência muscular;
Força / Flexibilidade / Potência / Velocidade /
Coordenação / Agilidade / Equilíbrio / Precisão.
